Moonlight Dating Sim Game

You play as Jenna Moonlight, a Vampric (half vampire, half witch) who lives during a time of chaos. The Blood Pond has spread its toxic fumes and has now infected the world. Those with dormant vampire blood are spared from becoming monsters while the rest of humanity becomes slaves of the Blood Pond. Initially, you are asked to align yourself with the living, those are battling those infected by the Blood Pond. You can, however, choose to be with any of the game's eligible bloodsuckers at any time.

Free to Choose Your Path

Unlike many other titles in the genre, Moonlight Dating Sim is actually open ended. This means that you can choose to finish the game at any time without needing to mind any sort of time limit. Winning someone's heart and unlocking the related ending is an entirely different matter altogether though. In order for you to succeed in wooing your chosen sweetheart, you will need to fulfill certain requirements. Of course, you will need to talk to them, give presents and go on a Date with these romance options. Just keep in mind that dating needs a higher amount of HP, a secret present and a certain amount of experience points.

Experience points are earned by talking to the apple of your eyes. This segment is simplified in the sense that there is no right or wrong answer. You simply pay them a visit and use up 10 HP. You gain 40 HP just by going to Jenna's room and choosing to sleep. Conveniently, you can also access this option using a shortcut from any of the different locations.

From the crossroads, you can head to any of seven locations. A tree simply labeled as "hunting" will allow you to play a simple mini game in order to earn money for presents. Any of the five locations (Mobley's Lab, The Forest, Hunter's Cove, The Grounds and The City) allow you to pay a visit to the game's eligible bachelors and bachelorette. And finally, in Jenna's Room, you can either sleep or even change your clothes. As it is, there are plenty of outfits to choose from so you can mix and match to your heart's content.

Wanting More, but in a Sad Kind of Way

The illustrations were drawn purely using a mouse, which is impressive but the poor proportions leaves something to be desired. The backgrounds, however, are spectacular. These are actually real pictures, taken at Montreal Canada by the creator's sister. Considering the fact that there are so many different ones used in the game, the fonts are really off. The layout is decent, although we would have wanted to see a more organized user interface. With the way things are, it's hard to even read the labels properly.

We do applaud the developer for actually going for a unique storyline. That's a pretty risky move, considering the current trend of just creating a game with great visuals and nothing else. It's pretty refreshing to see an indie game stepping out of the box.

The Verdict: Good Enough for a Bite

Overall, we say play the game if you're intrigued by its novel delivery. One caveat though is to not expect graphics that will blow you away. With bad proportions, the character illustrations are just not polished and since this is a dating sim, that's a big minus. Play it if you want something you can finish in under half an hour and play it for the storyline, if nothing else. On the other hand, if you're after something pretty, we suggest looking elsewhere.
